Letter to Theobald revision: Detailed revision of word selection, etc. occurred during the meeting. Renee is going to look at IU's mission statement and update a few more things. It will be sent out on the list one more time before we proceed.
Meeting McRobbie: Ursula and Renee met to start thinking about the material needed for our meeting with him. Ursula has updated the dental table, which is a really good hand-out because it demonstrates IU's lack. Purdue does not have dental, which is unfortunate for us, but all these other schools do. All the dental insurance is different which reminds us that all schools treat grad students like crap, just in different ways. So we need to be careful about what we ask
We decided to look up schools with comparable size/resources. Ursula looked up Iowa, which is a dangerous problem. All students there pay part of their premium ($9/mo.), but the school heavily subsidizes dependents. So the burden is a little more evenly spread. Many students at IU might have a problem with this. However, Sharyn says that their pay might be enough to offset that. Things are certainly more evenly spread out. They provide a model of more equitable distribution of fee. We do want to acknowledge that every plan has drawbacks, but it's not our job to make the plan only to suggest alternatives to our big beef issues.
Almost all the schools have the same dental provider, which is something that we might look into. Because some dental coverage is better than none.
We are going to contact McRobbie and pull this together as soon as possible. Emily will put together some powerpoint slides for the presentation.
Grade-In: The week after Thanksgiving is not a good week. So instead the last week of classes it is! We need press releases, flyers, stuff for the web. We've decided that Dec. 6 1:30-5:30 p.m. is the day/time. We will be meeting in Bryan Hall again. As a gimmick, we will petition folks to bring a health care themed for Theobald. For press release have a model but it's basically a news story about us. Throw in fake quotes and things with the date/time/place. Vanessa has volunteered to write this.
Flyers: new design with black box and white lettering a way to publicize specific issues.
