  1. What does it mean to claim that human categories, including word meanings, are "in the world"?

  2. What are the implications of the notion of meaning in the world for acquisition?

  3. Why would anyone want to claim that human categories are not "in the world"?

  4. What are some of the ways in which a researcher might establish what the meaning of a given word in a given language is?

  5. In the objectivist approach, why is it necessary to distinguish pragmatic from semantic meaning? Would this distinction be necessary in alternative approaches?
