Prahlad Gupta will be visiting with our lab this Friday and will be giving a talk at 1:30 in the Psychology Conference room. All are welcome to attend. Below is the abstract: Prahlad Gupta University of Illinois The Relationship Between Lexical Learning, Verbal Working Memory, Implicit Memory, and Explicit Memory Abstract I will present a view of lexical learning that attempts to relate it to a variety of memory systems. I will discuss the idea that implicit and explicit memory (i.e., two different aspects of long-term memory systems) may be differentially involved in different aspects of lexical learning (Gupta & Dell, in press). I will also discuss a computational framework that attempts to accommodate a variety of recent evidence that lexical learning processes and verbal short-term memory are related in some way (Gupta & MacWhinney, 1997). I will discuss experimental studies following from this framework, that examine the representational status of nonwords.
