Welcome to the home page for G225, Earth Materials. This course is offered by the
Department of Geological Sciences and is intended for students who are enrolled in the
Bachelor of Science Environmental Science (BSES) degree program offered jointly through the
College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs
(SPEA). The course is a rigorous introduction to the nature of the materials that make up the
solid earth, including minerals, rocks, and soil. Our intent is to provide BSES students with the
necessary background to move off into more specialized areas of environmental study and research.

It is also designed as an important precursor to the required course G329,
Introductory Field Experience in the Environmental Sciences, which is taught at the
I.U. Geologic Field Station in Montana.
