Videoconferencing Technical Information
- Information about Nov 8 Test

1. Register your system to the Indiana University gatekeeper at 149.166.197.49

  • If you have a Polycom ViewStation, press the MENU button on your remote, then navigate to SYSTEM INFO -> ADMIN SETUP -> LAN/H.323 -> H.323 -> GATEWAY/GATEKEEPER, then select Use Gatekeeper: Specify, and enter Gatekeeper IP Address: 149.166.197.49. NOTE: if you register to an Internet 2 Commons gatekeeper, no need to register to IU's gatekeeper. When you try to navigate away from this menu your system will automatically restart.
  • If you have a Polycom ViaVideo, from the main window click the "I" button on the upper left corner of your window, then click: SETUP -> H.323 -> GATEKEEPER -> then enter 149.166.197.49 in the Gatekeeper IP address window, then click Use Gatekeeper: SPECIFY button. You should see a confirmation message almost immediately that you are registered.

2. From the Video Call menu, enter number: 0013172742221 (no dots) and make sure to specify dialing speed of 384.

For site connecting via ISDN, you will originate the call. There are four isdn sites included in this conference so far, at this time we can connect at 256. So for the Nov 8 test, we have issued the following numbers to the three isdn sites:

Georgia State University 317.278.8160
Northern Colorado University 317.278.8161
Nova Southeastern University 317.278.8162

We encourage you to try out this dialing method in advance of the conference. If you have problems connecting please telephone IU Video Help Desk 812-856-2020 or email vicnoss@indiana.edu

The test on Friday November 8 will start at 2:30 PM Eastern Standard Time and will include all sites and technicians from those sites for troubleshooting. If you are unable to make this test, please contact Mary DeLellis at vicops@indiana.edu or 317.278.2020 to schedule a private test. Our hope is to have everyone that plans to be connected during November 14-16 participate in the November 8 test. We need everyone to test the capacity of the bridge.

Protocol for this test will be the same as for the actual conferences on Nov 14, 15 and 16.

  1. We will have the conference set on lecture mode.
  2. During the November 14-16 presentations, remote sites will be able to interact with the presenters by email. Questions/comments should be addressed to futures@indiana.edu - who will then relay them to the presenter for answers.
  3. If at any time you are disconnected or have a problem with the videoconference - call 812.856.2020 or email vicnoss@indiana.edu immediately - the gurus there will get you reconnected.
