President Erin Ransford called the meeting to order at 9:05 pm.
Introductions were made for the benefit of the guest speaker. Guest Speakers Dana Chianello, Marketing Assistant for the Division of RecSports Dana Chianello spoke to the executives. RecSports is the organization that runs the HPER and the SRSC. Students pay a mandatory fee each semester for unlimited use of these services. They are also in charge of intramural and club sports. They discovered that freshmen are the least educated as to what is available. Right now, this division is hiring a Residence Hall Manager to work with the halls and educate the students. Two events are being planned at the moment. One is the Jill Behrman Run For the End Zone 5K run/walk. They are planning a residence hall challenge were floors are urged to compete against each other. Yellow ribbons are the symbol for Jill Behrman, and it has been suggested that floors be decorated in this color to show support. If one does not want to run or walk, it is also suggested to line the course and cheer for the runners and walkers in the race. The second event is the Spirit of Sport, which will take place on February 9th and 10th to raise money for the Special Olympics. Teams will compete all through the night in different sports. A steering committee is being created, and this division is looking for volunteers in the halls. If one is interested in volunteer opportunities, contact Christine Geary at cgeary@indiana.edu. She is the Director of Special Events. The RecSports website also has information available. The address is www.recsport.indiana.edu. Dana Chianello can be reached at dchianel@indiana.edu. She also invited the board to visit HPER 390, the Marketing Office for RecSports.New Business Meeting Dates The meeting dates for the Executive Board for this semester will continue to be Tuesday nights at 9 pm. Office hours are as follows:Executive Reports President Erin Ransford reported that on Wednesday she would have a Community Council and a President's Council meeting. They will be appointing a National Communications Coordinator, a Vice President of Philanthropy, and a Community Involvement Director. She also said that the Diversity Council would be asking for money to have an art competition. They will look for 12 original works of art that are relevant to the topic of diversity. They hope to print calendars for the 2001-2 school year and sell them. The suggestion was also made by President Ransford to put the Foster Student Government Instant Messenger name in the next Foster Flush.Vice President John Kurzawinski reported that there are no bills for the next Board of Governors meeting. The IUSF should come, but that is not confirmed. There is a meeting for the radio station this week. He hopes to show the station and start designing programming. This station should become an independent entity. There has also been interest in opening the darkroom. Perhaps a bill will go to the Board of Governors for chemicals.Programming Vice President Chrissi Cooper reported on the state of the Foster Fest planning. The first programmers meeting had been held the previous Sunday. The Foster Fest date is set on October 14th. Sign-up sheets should soon appear on floors for individuals interested in competing. The programmers are also designing T-shirts for the Fest. They will be the same design, but the colors will be different for each building. The events that have been chosen are volleyball, flag football, dodge ball, tug-o-war, obstacle course, and eating contest. RA Advisor Matt Hottell suggested that he might be able to find a DJ willing to work for free. Ideas for people to have booths include RecSports, Health and Wellness, and Little 500. It has been suggested as well that the grills from Gresham are rented and the food is bought from another location. Meat purchased must be pre-packed. 500 people are expected, there will be amplified sound from 12-5 pm, and tables will be used for booths and food. Participation waivers are necessary, and Emergency Services needs to be told about the event. Vice President Cooper also mentioned Homecoming activities. Yell Like Hell is a skit/stand-up/dance/song show held on October 19th in Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union. Any interested acts must attend a preview session on the 15th or 16th of October. Information is also available on the parade route. There will also be a banner contest. The theme and a variation must be on the banner, and they must be up on October 17th. Bikes can be rented near the Stadium with an ID card.Environmental Director Laura Edwards is looking into getting recycling bins like the ones at the Union that are difficult to contaminate. Pamela Sprong, the Vice Director of Marketing, stated that the University is moving away from recycling, as it is not cost efficient. Director Edwards will be getting in touch with the Collins Living Learning Center, which has an excellent recycling program. Foster Student Government received an email concerning the use of disposable plates and silverware at Gresham. This is because the facilities to wash the dishes are not available.Sports and Recreation Director Jackie Mikusevich reported that Run for the End Zone will be held on October 7th. The price is $15 per person, not $10 as had originally been reported. She will possibly begin a sign-up sheet. Also, Coach Knight's Cancer Walk will be held on the 14th and a Diabetes Walk on the 15th.IUSA Senator Bilen Mulugeta reported that she would provide information on IUSA to Vice President Noyer to put in the next edition of Foster Flush.RA Advisor Comments Matt Hottell stated that the programmers would be meeting on Sunday at 5 pm. Director Mikusevich will attend to help with Foster Fest. Flag Football intramural sign-up is on the 27th of September, and usually floors make teams. There are 25 floors and 21 RA's. Director Mikusevich will receive the RA email list.Discussion
Advisor Comments LaTanya Purnell has concerned about the monitoring of content on the radio station. Vice President Kurzawinski replied that as long as the service is contained within McNutt, Briscoe, and Foster, the rules include simply basics, such as no reporting false news. Other rules will be looked into. Advisor Purnell also was concerned as to who will maintain and support the darkroom. A suggestion was made to have a professor do seminars on film developing, perhaps color one month and black and white another. If it involves academic learning, the Academic Development funds might pay for the upkeep. Also, RecSports provides a laminated poster on which to post activities each month.Announcements
