The Ruth E. Aten World Doll Collection
Ruth Aten worked in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology from 1981 to 2007, first as the Graduate Secretary and then later as the Administrative Services Coordinator. Knowing her love for dolls, the faculty and graduate students would bring Ruth dolls from their research trips. She documented each doll and put them on display in her office. After 25 years, the collection grew to around 300 dolls from all over the world. When she retired, she felt the dolls should stay in the department because the collection has so much history and research. Here, you can find Ruth's catalog, including pictures, of all the dolls she treasured over the years, divided by World Area. All photos were taken by Ruth's husband Robert.
