Since 1998, the Faculty Learning Community (formerly known as the Freshman Learning Project, or FLP) has
led 53 Indiana University Bloomington faculty members through
an intensive process, including a 2-week seminar. The seminar
is designed to help faculty understand the obstacles faced by
students in their introductory classes and to develop new ways
to help students overcome these obstacles.
The FLC program also assumes that the spread
of such forms of teaching more broadly within the university will
have a positive impact on all undergraduate learning, and the
first-year in particular. FLC (formerly FLP) was recently mentioned in a 2001
Time article about Indiana University.
