
A Day of Grad School

Mood: Psyched; need gas before it costs $5! Why aren’t the hurricane gods tired?

“Week three….ONLY??”
1. Tylenol = vitamin!!
2. Expert at predicting time of day using network speeds.
3. Laptop/PDA more important to carry than driver’s license.
4. Laundry ~ Meditative; even if it means washing two kitchen towels.
5. Only way to explain to kids where I’m at: “25th Grade.”
Typical Weekday:
6 a.m.—Wake up by cellphone alarm. Depressed already. Treat yourself to 15 minutes of “open eyed” sleeping. Hit snooze button.
6:25 a.m.—Get up suddenly with heart in mouth. Realize hit “Off” instead of “Snooze.”
6:35 a.m.—Zzzzzzzzz …
6:40 a.m.—Wake up with heart in mouth again.
7:15 a.m.—Leave for school; pick early drive-through brunch.
7:45 a.m.—Arrive at school; begin: special event of the day: hunt parking spot!!
8 a.m.—Parked. Dare not move car all day!!
8:05 a.m.—Check e-mail. Depression: too much work to do today. List things-to-do in PDA.
8:35 a.m.—Chit-chat with others around …Discuss gas prices.
9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.—Begin: Class marathon
2:30 p.m.—Splitting headache (count = 1). Quick stop at Starbucks to pull through remaining day.
2:45 p.m.—Meet advisor…blah….blah
3:45 p.m.—Splitting headache (count = 2).
Discuss homework with undergrad/grad students.
3:46 p.m.—Splitting headache (count = 3)
3:47 to 4:30 p.m.—Check e-mail; don't reply though; leave for home.
5 p.m.—Reach home. Supper (mac ’n’ cheese) + check e-mail (Aarrgh..no e-mails!!) + phone
6:15 p.m.—Realize mountain loads of work to do and having wasted the day.
6:30 p.m.—Decide to play a quick game of Dynomite!
6:45 p.m.—Play game after game to improve score and get on Challengers’ list.
9:30 p.m.—Catch up with roommate; (Aarrgh!! She got gas..twice… at $2.65)
11:30 p.m.—Realize have not started with assignments. Reassure self, the night’s still young….begin slogging…
12 a.m.—Realize it’s just midnight. Take a quick break; play a game of Dynomite again...and again …and again.
1:30 a.m.—Assignments??…..slog slog slog…
3:45 a.m.—Phew!!...finally over… not bad; still 15 minutes to day break!
3:50 a.m.—Zzzzzz…☺
