IU Bloomington freshman, Exploratory

During her first year at IU Bloomington, Audrey Matthias has chosen to keep her options open. Matthias has no specific area of study but has declared herself "Exploratory," a temporary major in the University Division that allows students to examine their options. “Since I am not exactly sure what I want to do yet, I just am hoping to find a path that makes me happy,” Matthias says. “I know that IU has a lot of opportunities for whatever I decide to do.”

Matthias is 19 and from Sellersburg, Indiana. She is thinking about joining a sorority and has already joined the Field Hockey Club team and is its treasurer.

Her mother encouraged her to live in a FIG (Freshman Interest Group). After exploring the option, Matthias agreed and now lives in the America and the World Beyond FIG. “My mother heard what a great experience they were for freshmen,” Matthias says. “I had also heard a lot of great things from friends who had been in FIGs.”
