Typical College Student

Oct 20, 2005

I cannot believe that the semester is already half over! It is unbelievable how time can fly when you only have one or two sessions of each class a week. Things move so quickly! I have noticed myself slowly becoming that average college student over this first half, though. It is getting harder and harder to get up for class, and skipping has actually crossed my mind a time or two (in high school I was always the one too scared to do anything wrong).

Today, I caught myself driving in the same circle in the parking lot for 15 minutes just so I could get a spot close to my class and avoid walking through pouring rain. I realized exactly how typical and idiotic I have become.

Aside from that, next week in my English composition class, we are doing a group presentation of an ethical issue in the news. Most of the people in my group are freshmen, so we chose drug testing in public high schools and the ability of schools to revoke driving privileges. Fortunately, I feel very strongly that it is not the school’s place, responsibility, or business to do drug testing. Rather, schools should educate—not moralize. Funny enough, when I hear myself say that, I realize that it doesn’t necessarily go with my strict conservative beliefs. Am I, the right-winged nut, being influenced by those Dems in academia? Surely not!
