Associated mainly with the dropping of the first atomic bomb, Hiroshima provides other reasons to visit as well. At Shukkei-en Garden, everything is in miniature. The famous shrine on Miyajima Island is only an hour away. And at the Okonomiyaki Village, one can try all types of Hiroshima's famous dish - pancake with vegetables, meat and seafood. Finally, with a population of 1 million and a user-friendly post-WWII infrastructure, Hiroshima is an easy city to negotiate. Without question, though, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, with its many memorials and museum, is the must-visit in the city. Prepare for a sobering experience, but be comforted by the millions and millions of colorful paper cranes sent from those around the world advocating peace.
