Bring Your
Curriculum and Outreach Ideas To Bloomington
(Some
thoughts on the outreach component of our tour to Japan from John Frank.)
Colleagues,
Once again, we teachers
anticipate a summer vacation filled with projects, study, travel, family, and
renewal. Our EASC Study Tour to Japan will undoubtedly make this summer one to be
remembered for its unique experiences and irreplaceable memories. How do we share these experiences with our
students, schools, and communities? My
role as “Curriculum Consultant” is to assist your sharing of our Japanese
experiences with “the folks back home.”
I am certain that you, like I, consider this to be the most important
outcome of our time spent in Japan.
When
we gather at Indiana University for orientation weekend, please arrive with a written one to
two-paragraph statement of your professional goals for
the study tour. The statement should
answer these questions: “What professional goals do I have for the trip to Japan this summer?
What effects will the tour have upon my classroom, my school, and my
community?” I would like to look through
your professional goal statements after we arrive and begin to consider how I
might assist with the implementation of those goals. Also, during our Saturday
evening session, I will discuss the curriculum development guidelines for
future Chicago, Japan, and Bloomington meetings.
