About Us
Our Mission
As part of the University Information Systems group (UIS), our mission is to provide a comprehensive set of database administration (DBA) services for the University's institutional systems. This includes primary support and management of the relational database management system (RDBMS) software along with coordination and consultation for the “developer/dbas” who use the database system in their application areas. Support will also be provided for database related products deemed strategic and central to our mission.

Our History
- The database administration team was started around 1990 in response to the move from traditional (VSAM for example) and other non-relational systems to database systems based on the relational model (RDBMS-relational database system).
- IBMs DB2 for MVS was the first RDBMS supported by the team.
- Later, Ingres was supported on the Unix platform.
- Around 1995, in planning for the FIS (Financial Information System), the decision was made to use Sybase as the universitys strategic database system on Unix platforms.
- In November of 1998, Oracle was chosen as our new strategic database.
