L1 Leadership Series

L180 Participant Leadership Development
L181 Organizational Leadership Development

(formerly R100, R180/R181)

The L180 and L181 courses are each 1 credit hour and combine to provide students a foundation for being a strong leader. Students gain knowledge about leadership through guided educational opportunities paired with participation in organizations in the IU and Bloomington communities.

L180 Participant Leadership Development Students are guided through the development of a personal leadership plan that they can use throughout their undergraduate career. Examples of individuals who benefit from this course include: committee members, athletic and club team members, sports officials, lifeguards, waiters, ushers, receptionists, and facility supervisors.
Course content includes:

  • Leadership/Followership
  • Integrity
  • Time Management
  • Teamwork
  • Diversity & Communication
  • Achieving Balance

L181 Organizational Leadership Development is a one-credit course designed to teach students leadership skills that they can use to increase their skills as organizational leaders. Content is delivered using a combination of interactive online tools and face-to-face meetings.

Course content includes:

  • Organizational and Individual Goal Development
  • Leadership Styles
  • The Art of Delegating
  • Successful Event Planning & Evaluation
  • Diversity & Ethics
  • Mentoring/Supporting

Examples of students who enroll in this course include: organization executive officers (president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer), committee chairs/directors, head officials/lifeguards, team captains, lead waiters, lead supervisors, etc.
