Applications for graduate study are reviewed carefully by the Department's Graduate Affairs Committee. The admission decision is based upon the committee's assessment of the applicant's academic achievements and promise of succeeding in the department's graduate programs. Admission to the graduate program reflects the committee's belief that the candidate has the ability, motivation, and creativity to advance the field.
The minimum academic requirement for admission to either the Ph.D. or the M.A. program is the completion of a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. A grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and a score of 600 or above on one of the three sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is normally required for admission. However, the GPA or GRE threshold requirement may be waived if additional evidence of academic promise is presented (for example, GRE scores under 600 may be offset by a high GPA and strong letters of recommendation).
The Department of Criminal Justice seeks a diverse student body. Indiana University complies with all federal regulations prohibiting discrimination on the basis of age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
