Ivana Huang, class of 2014, is a junior studying Economics and Telecommunications, with a concentration in Design and Production. She is also minoring in Spanish and a student in the Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP). A Herbert Presidential Scholar, Hudson & Holland Scholar, and student in the Hutton Honors College, Ivana became involved with Books & Beyond through her living learning community, the Global Village in Foster Quad, during her freshman and sophomore year, an organization that partners with charter school students in Newark, New Jersey to author and publish books to address the book famine in Rwanda. She also volunteers as a campus tour guide and worked as an orientation leader this past summer to usher in the 7,500+ incoming freshman to the class of 2016. In conjunction with LAMP, Ivana participates as a manager in the Virtu Project, a mock investment portfolio organization whose profits are matched with donor pledges to donate money to Timmy Global Health, a non-for profit Global Health Organization thatworks to establish sustainable healthcare in Latin and South America. She also serves as one of the Directors of Marketing for the Student Alumni Association and ran in Little 50 as a member of the Alpha Gamma Sorority, which sponsors philanthropy events that benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research. She has worked as an undergraduate instructor in the Econ department, started her own photography business, Ivana Huang Photography, and interned with Blueline Media Productions as a Little 500 photographer. She also studied abroad in Alcalá de Henares, Spain during the summer of 2011, completing her Spanish minor. Ivana graduated with honors from Carmel High School in the Top 3% of her graduating class of over 1,000 students. She received the distinction of "Best Prosecuting Attorney" and helped lead her Mock Trial Team to first place in Hamilton County during her senior year. She became a National AP, Commended National Merit Finalist, and received four varsity letters from track and field. While in high school, Ivana also participated on the speech team, concert and jazz band, volunteered as a Spanish tutor, and played the piano. As a result of her high school involvement, Ivana was awarded the Sam Walton Scholarship, Thomas J. Watson IBM Scholarship, and Simon Youth Foundation Scholarship. In her spare time, Ivana enjoys spending time outside going on bike rides, reading, documenting life, and engaging in spontaneous adventures. She also enjoys trying new foods and hopes to try every ethnic restaurant in Bloomington before she graduates. Someday, Ivana would love to be a successful lawyer, professional photographer and videographer, travel the world, and own a small bakery. She is excited to serve on the Supreme Court and make a difference on IU's campus.
