C571 SMILES Exercise
Updated: 26 September 2003
You can learn more about Daylight by connecting to their Web site at:
http://www.daylight.com.
Choose "Learn" and "SMILES," then scan through the SMILES tutorials.
For a barebones introduction to SMILES, see the C371 lecture notes at:
http://www.indiana.edu/~cheminfo/C371/SMILES1.ppt
and
http://www.indiana.edu/~cheminfo/C371/SMILES2.ppt
In the examples below, assume that R = H in each case where a generic R is indicated.
After you are done, you may check your answers with
JME Molecular Editor. Use JME
Tutorial/Intro to learn
about the capabilities of the SMILES editor. Click on the smiley face to generate the
SMILES code once you have drawn the molecule. This will generate a canonical SMILES string,
which you should write under your answer.
