Activity: Kuali Financial System Financial Policy: N/A Related Policies: N/A Additional Forms: N/A Things to Know: The name “Kuali” comes from the Malaysian word for "wok". At a time when many colleges and universities are paying tens of millions of dollars for administrative systems, the notion of a wok -- a humble, but essential dish -- seemed appropriate. What is Kuali? The Kuali Financial System (KFS) incorporates the baseline FIS functionality and approved enhancements, in what has become the Kuali mold: a collaborative approach to design, an open development platform, and a web-based operating environment. What does that mean for me? This means the rules haven't changed, we've just made a cleaner, more user-friendly face for the financial transactions you already know how to do! We've also added some new features, and enhanced some of the old.
No more clunky menus or Citrix installations, Kuali is a web-based platform that you can access easily through Onestart from any computer with Internet access. Kuali operates through Workflow, and will have a similar look and feel to EPIC, TIME, and HRMS.
When can I use it? Right now IU's Kuali release is in development, but if you'd like to get a sneak preview of the general Kuali format, come and take a Kuali Test Drive! The Kuali Test Drive site is a demonstration of the Kuali platform open to the general public. Remember, all of the features on the Test Drive site may not be the same in the KFS version specific to IU, but the Test Drive site gives you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the basic look and feel of Kuali before the program is implemented.
Web Site: http://kuali.org/ The Kuali Test Drive can be located at: http://www.kualitestdrive.org , and comes complete with a Driver's Manual full of exercises and scenarios for you to explore.
