Summary
This exercise is intended to introduce students to a number of different scientific techniques and concepts used in both the biological and earth sciences. A general set of instructions are provided here for the teacher. These instructions and outline of options is to be used in conjunction with a student handout designed for the general high school science level. Modification can be made to increase or decrease the level of detail and rigor of the various exercises to make the work appropriate for the class in which the exercise is being used. Please note that this is the initial version of this exercise; we would appreciate your corrections and suggestions for ways in which the materials might be improved and expanded.
