1. Overview
Although optional, your instructions to students can help them understand an activity:
- the purpose of the activity
- how to prepare for the activity
- how to complete the activity
- how to interpret and learn from activity feedback
- how the activity will be assessed and scored
- how the activity will be used in determining the final grade
You might also want to include in all activities some context information that might help students:
- the course title
- your name and e-mail address
- a link to the course home page
When students retrieve the activity,
your instructions will appear at the beginning.
You can include instructions for each activity, or for ALL course activities.
If you include both, the instructions for all activities will appear first.
Before writing instructions for a specific activity,
you must have already created activity settings
for that activity so that the activity name will appear in the list of choices.
2. Editing Instructions
- From the QuizSite Main Menu, in the Activities column,
select Instructions and click Proceed.
- Select the activity name from the list,
or select ALL to edit the instructions for all activities, and click Proceed.
- Type the instructions for the activity into the large text box.
The instructions will be interpreted as HTML code. Here are some examples:
- Type <p> to start a new paragraph.
- Type <hr> to show a horizontal line.
- Type
<b>bold</b>,
<i>italicized</i> and
<u>underlined</u>
to make words bold, italicized and underlined.
- Type
<h1>Heading 1</h1> and
<h2>Heading 2</h2>
to use headings such as
Heading 1
Heading 2
Instead of typing the instructions in the text box,
you might want to compose your instructions
in a word processor or text or HTML editor.
Then press Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy them,
click in the text box, and press Ctrl-V to paste them into the box.
To remove the instructions, click anywhere in the box, press Ctrl-A to select all the text, and press the Delete key.
- If you need to undo your changes and start over, click the Reset button.
- When you are ready to see how your instructions will look to students,
click the Preview button.
3. Saving Instructions
- You will see the instructions as they will appear to students
at the top of the activity.
(The students will not see the two red triangles.)
- To save these instructions, click the Save button.
- To make corrections, click the Cancel button or the Back button in your browser.
