ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES: CAVES

Actun Uyazba Kab

Actun Uyazba Kab (Handprint Cave) is a small cave perched towards the top of a steep bluff face overlooking the site of Cahal Witz Na. It is actually two large inter-connected cave mouths with several small caves inside. Two interesting features of the cave are the handprints which give the cave its name and its natural properties as an amplifier of sound. Archaeologists in other parts of the city below the tropical canopy can easily overhear conversations from the cave mouths!
