Message from The Colonel
Director of Athletic Bands - David C. Woodley
Greetings from Bloomington!
It seems like just last week we were announcing the start of the 2010 season - and now, we reach the final home game! This year has flown by so quickly, mainly due to the amount of hard work the band has put in this season and the fun we've had. Numbers are up, performance levels have increased, and the general attitude of the Marching Hundred is as high as it's ever been.
It will be difficult to say goodbye to a great crew of senior band members - our 4th, 5th, and 6th year members will be honored at halftime of this week's game and will have the opportunity to stand down front, arm-in-arm at post-game, as we sing Hail to Old IU for the final time this year in Memorial Stadium.
Thanks for the season go out to many different people - too many to list individually. However, we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our Tailgate Gang (especially Gail and Jim Zmierski - our leaders for the past several seasons) for all of the hard work and dedication they have shown week in and week out. This group of parents definitely goes above and beyond what is called for. Our students are treated well and fed well by this outstanding group each week!
Drum Major Tonya Mitchell will be making her last appearance in Memorial Stadium - we thank her for her talent and dedication to the Hundred over her years in band.
After this week, the band quickly prepares for the Band Showcase concert on Tuesday, November 9 in Assembly Hall. Tickets are available at the door and there is plenty of free parking. Marching Hundred merchandise and concessions will be available for purchase. Our friends from Shelbyville High School will serve as the opening act for our show.
Thanks to all of you for your dedication and support this season - we look forward to seeing you at the Iowa game this Saturday, the Band Showcase on Tuesday, November 9, and the trip to Washington D.C. on November 19-21!!
