Study sustainability and bridge the arts and humanities, social sciences, and the physical and life sciences.

Understanding human-environment interactions and its connection with ecological, social, and economic processes is a core competency in today’s world. The interdisciplinary program in Environmental and Sustainability Studies at Indiana University draws these connections on the IU Bloomington campus, allowing you—our students— to specialize in sustainability, while exploring it through a variety of lenses.

Students doing field research

Our undergraduate major and minor in Environmental and Sustainability Studies are each jointly administered by IU's College of Arts and Sciences and the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA). This means you will have access to a large selection of courses on a wide range of topics. More than 90 faculty and instructors across IU work to deliver our program’s sustainability courses.

Our world faces significant challenges.  Be part of the solution.
