Project 1: Character Sheet

This project challenges you to create a fictional character. What traits make you who you are? You know (potentially) more about yourself than you do anyone else. This project starts with self-reflection and then asks you to project your gaze onto a character of your own design.

  1. Download the file CHARACTER-CHART.docx. It's also in the Oncourse Resources folder.
  2. Complete the chart with information for yourself. You can do this digitally using Microsoft Word, or first print the chart and fill it out by hand. If your chart is handwritten is must be legible! If your chart was done digitally be sure to print it and staple the pages together when you are finished.
  3. Answer honestly and provide detail, but don't provide any information unless you are comfortable sharing it with your instructors and classmates.
  4. Complete another version of the chart, but this time the information should be about a fictional character. ALL of the character's attributes are to be created by you. There are no "right" answers—the quirks and idiosyncrasies of your character can be inspired by yourself, others you know or have met, characters you recall from books, TV, or cinema—or completely original. The only requirement is that the chart has enough information and detail that your classmates and instructors will be able to read your character sheet and get a sense of the person you have created.
  5. Bring both character sheets to discussion class on Friday, January 28. You will use the chart of your fictional character for an additional exercise that takes place in class.

This project is worth 20 points. Evaluations are based on the thoroughness of your chart:
