Brief Bio

It's hard for me to believe, but this is my 32nd year teaching at Indiana University. I arrived here in 1979 by way of Tucson, Arizona (University of Arizona), East Lansing, Michigan (Michigan State University), and Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania (Stroudsburg High School).

My beloved spouse, Carol, is a retired psychology researcher currently occupied as a new millennium social butterfly, charitable do-gooder, certified master gardener (with a major in orchids), avid tennis player, and high school tennis coach.  My lovely and talented daughter, Emily, is a 2002 graduate of Stanford University with a double-major in Psychology (Cognitive Science) and English.  She resides in Portland, Oregon where she is a freelance writer and co-owner/operator of a yarn, crafts, and tea shop called Twisted.

When I'm not busy being an economics professor, I enjoy playing tennis, riding my tractor, hiking and backpacking with my canine pal Ozzie (or my daughter when I can get to the west coast), and scuba diving in the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean.  I've also enjoyed side trips to the jungles and Mayan ruins of Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. Trying to speak Spanish with the natives has been an ongoing adventure. The non-econ side of my brain, where language skills develop, has apparently atrophied. If only I had paid more attention in my college Spanish classes.
