  • 2003 fall - Our Department has a record number of successfully funded grants and contracts (13 projects with total funding of $1,850,368).
  • 2003 fall - In the past year our faculty have made 38 research presentations, published 11 research publications and 11 pedagogical publications.
  • 2003 fall - Our Department has developed an initiative in support of interdisciplinary research for our faculty. A copy of the call for proposals is available.
  • 2003 fall - Our Department has implemented an initiative to provide grant-in-aid support for both undergraduate and graduate students involved in research. These funds can also support travel to professional conferences for presentations.
  • 2003 fall - Michael Reece & Brian Dodge present "Campus sexual cruising by gay and bisexual men: A public health issue?" at the Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association, San Francisco.
  • 2003 fall - Michael Reece, Debbie Herbenick, & Catherine Sherwood-Puzzello present "Do you want lube with that? The role of adult retail stores in promoting sexual health." at the Annual Meeting of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, San Antonio.
  • 2003 summer - Brian Dodge & Michael Reece present "Cruising for sex on an American college campus: communication, etiquette, and characteristics of space in the 21st century tearoom" at the Annual Conference of the International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture, and Society. Johannesburg, South Africa.
  • 2003 spring - William J. Bailey and Mark A. Pogue are co-principal investigators on a new 3-year "Youth Problem Gambling Prevention Initiative" funded by a $389,722 contract with the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction. This new contract will allow the Indiana Prevention Resource Center to expand its mission to include prevention of problem gambling.
  • 2003 spring - David Lohrmann is participating as a core team member in a three-year American Cancer Society project to engage large urban school districts in Coordinated School Health Programs (CSHP).
  • 2003 spring - Catherine Sherwood-Puzzello, Michael Reece, and Tania Basta are currently working on an evaluation project of the Washington County Rural Health Outreach Program.
  • 2003 spring - Catherine Sherwood-Puzzello is working with David Lohrmann on a project that assesses needs related to physical fitness and nutrition of a middle school.
  • 2003 spring - Our faculty and staff, through our Centers and Institute collectively generated nearly $2 million dollars in grants and contracts during this past year. Our Indiana Prevention Resource Center and our Institute for Drug Abuse Prevention continue to contribute tobacco and other drug education and to collect baseline data to detect drug use in the State of Indiana. Our Rural Center for AIDS/ STD Prevention and the National Rural Health Association co-sponsored a National Conference on HIV/STD prevention in rural communities from March 28 to 30 on the IU-Bloomington Campus.
