Lab Fees
The CISAB Lab operates as a non-profit service to members of the IU research community. We strive to keep supply costs and equipment maintenance fees low for our users. Users are billed quarterly, unless prior arrangements are made. Fees for non-IU researchers are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on project scope and number of samples. Please contact the lab director for more details.
The rates below are effective July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 (rates are reassessed on an annual basis). They include supplies, reagents and equipment maintenance fees. A complete cost estimate can be provided to users at the start of their research project. Please remember to include trial runs, validation, optimization and reruns when estimating project costs.
Hormone Extraction:
- Blood or Egg Yolk: $1.25 per sample
- Tissue or Feces: $1.75 per sample
- Water (single SPE): $5.00 per sample
EIA:
- $0.50 per sample, plus the cost of kits (purchased by user). Kits generally range in price from $200-$400 and each can accommodate 35-40 samples. Your final cost will be about $6 to $12 per sample (run in duplicate), depending on the hormone and number of kits needed.
Nucleic Acid Extraction:
- Standard DNA extraction (no kit): $1.75 per sample
- DNA or RNA Extraction (kit): $0.50 per sample, plus the cost of kits (purchased by user). Your final cost will be about $2-6 per sample, depending on the sample type.
- DNA/RNA/protein quantification: $7.50 per 96 well plate
Agarose Gel Electrophoresis:
- Small (up to 15 samples): $8.00 per gel
- Large (up to 38 samples): $12.00 per gel
Standard PCR:
- $0.75 per reaction, plus the cost of primers (purchased by user). Standard primer pairs are relatively inexpensive (about $10-30).
Genotyping:
- $45 per plate, plus IMBI charges ($77 per plate as of 10/1/09) and primer costs ($100-160 per pair; purchased by user). In total, you can expect to pay about $3-4 per sample, per locus (run in duplicate). Multiplex kits can be used to save time and money if several loci are being analyzed.
Sequencing:
- $1.75 per reaction plus IMBI charges ($2.57 per reaction as of 10/1/09) and cost of purification kit and primers (purchased by user). In total, you can expect to pay about $9-12 per sample (run in duplicate).
