Dr. Allen was a Resident in Pathology, Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tennessee; a Fellow in enteric and anaerobic bacteriology, Center for Disease Control, Atlanta, Georgia and Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

His subspecialty Certification is Medical Microbiology. His special interest is medical microbiology and Infections of immunocompromised patients.
